Training for Staff (1.5 hours)
Recognizing & Responding to Bullying in School
This training is appropriate for administrators, teachers, counselors, specialists, school nurses, paraprofessionals and other support staff. The training will address:
- Defining bullying and why the definition is important
- Forms of bullying, including cyber-bullying
- The effects of bullying on bullies and targets
- How to effectively respond to bullying
- Best practices in bullying prevention: what works and what doesn’t work
- Creating a school climate that promotes student connectedness
- Resources for further help & information
Training for Parents (1.5 hours)
Preventing Bullying: What Parents Need to Know
While most bullying prevention programs take place in the school environment, the role of parents is also key to preventing and stopping bullying. This interactive training provides parents with the knowledge, tools and resources to effectively recognize and respond to bullying, whether your child is the bully, the target or a bystander to bullying. Topics addressed include:
- Forms of bullying, including cyber-bullying
- The effects of bullying on bullies and targets
- Parenting styles that produce or prevent bullying
- What to do if your child is the bully, target or bystander
- Resources for further help and information
Training for Students (1 hour)
Peer Power: From Bystanders to Allies
This training can be delivered as a classroom presentation or assembly, from 45 minutes to one hour in length. The training can be geared to lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school or high school students. The multi-media presentation addresses:
- Forms of bullying, including cyber-bullying
- The effects of bullying on bullies and targets
- What do we mean by the terms “bystander” and “ally”?
- Voices of Youth Survey: What targets of bullying want bystanders to do
- Safe and effective strategies for bystanders and allies to use to help stop bullying
- Resources for follow-up classroom and/or school-wide projects to encourage bystanders to become allies
